Why We're Here

  • The practice of yoga was designed by cis-men for the male body - the birthing body and it's cyclical nature and unique anatomy has been largely ignored in the physical/somatic practices of asana and pranayama. .

  • We want to approach prenatal and postnatal yoga as deserving its own vocabulary to support health and vitality through this precious period - one that does not rest upon avoidance and modifications made in reference to the tenets of traditional (cis-male-centred) yoga.

  • We need to bridge the gap between the birthing world and the world of yoga; several incongruences exist and we would like to answer the call to bridge them.

  • We want to provide a more evidence-based and trauma-informed lens to prenatal yoga, because this is so necessary.

  • We want to centre the wonder of the birthing body from its anatomy to its physiology, and not see it as a side dish to a main course.

  • We want to empower others to be in their bodies and to trust their inner wisdom and deep knowing.

KYRA VALLINGA
(she/her)
Midwife,SpBCPE

Kyra Vallinga (she/her) grew up in Landgraaf (South Limburg) and knew from a young age that she wanted to become a midwife. In 2014, this dream became reality. After graduating, she worked across the country, and in 2015 her love for the profession brought her to the Randstad region. A year later, she joined Liva, where the personal care, diversity of the work area, and supportive colleagues proved to be an excellent match. In 2021, Kyra became a partner in the practice, now co-owning it together with Erna, Nynke, and Kaylee.

She believes deeply in the strength of women and their bodies, with the autonomy of the pregnant person at the heart of her approach. Kyra is committed to helping clients find confidence in their own abilities, offering support where needed. To her, every birth is unique—whether at home or in the hospital, with or without pain relief. What matters most is that each person feels comfortable with their choices. Her goal is to create a positive birth experience that can be looked back on with pride.

Kyra also teaches in the Liva online birth course and the Spinning Babies® Parent Class. Through her experience as a midwife, she has seen how preparation can make a meaningful difference in how birth is experienced.
